Good morning, and welcome to this meeting of the Domestic Abuse Act 2021 committee. This is a committee that is looking at a piece of legislation that was passed in 2021 to really really a very much a modernizing piece of legislation in the field of domestic abuse. And and this is a a post legislative scrutiny committee. So we're looking at the effectiveness of the legislation. And and so we're helped by different experts who come before us to give us their assessment of how the legislation is working out, the good and the bad, and the disappointing, and the and the surprising.
So let's welcome our panel, and let me start by welcoming those who are online. I've got Leanne Saunders. Welcome, Leanne. Leanne is the chief detective chief inspector in South Wales Police, and she has done been there for twenty four years. And she has been a frontline officer, and she's worked with the CID department, spent three years seconded to the UK Borders Agency, and she's worked on economic crime.
So she's also been a financial, investigator. But for the past seven years, she's been working with public protection protection and safeguarding command. She's held strategic responsibility for domestic abuse and for stalking and for a whole range of experiences in that, if you like, field, that wider field, because it would include things like female genital mutilation and forced marriage. So the the the whole business of domestic abuse. And she's currently involved in and leading safeguarding in Midclamorgan.
And it's really great see you here, Leigh Ann, because your expertise is so important and because Wills gets a good gets the thumbs up. Your success rate in terms of not just, you know, not just investigating, but actually in getting cases to court is, it sort of leads leads the way. So we wanted to hear from you about why you've been so successful at that. Can I also then welcome Medina Johnson? She has worked in domestic violence and the abuse sector since 2004.
