Order. Order. And welcome to today's meeting of the science innovation and tech technology select committee. Today, we are questioning the government's preferred candidate for the role of UK research and innovation chair, professor Silesvik Boryshevik. We he has held senior leadership roles across research, medicine, and higher education, and as a scientific researcher, has made significant contributions to our understanding of how immune systems fight off viral infections.
And it is thanks to professor Boris Shvec's work that girls are now vaccinated against cervical cancer. So his announcement as the preferred candidate has been generally welcomed. Our role here is to scrutinize the the government's decision and to understand the the the candidate's intentions and how they will for for UKRI and how whether he's qualified to be successful with them. So I'm going to hand over for the first question after sorry. I should say welcome, and thank you so much for joining us this morning.
