Good evening everyone and welcome to this press conference following the first meeting of the Agriculture and Fisheries Council under the Irish presidency. We are joined by the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Martin Heydon, and Commissioner for Agriculture and Food, Christophe Hansen. I will first give the floor to Minister Heydon to take us through the outcomes of today's meeting.

Good afternoon everybody. I was delighted to chair today the very first AgriFish Council meeting of Ireland's EU presidency. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Maria, my colleague, and all of the Cyprus delegation for delivering a very successful presidency in the first half of this year.
Ireland's presidency will be guided by three clear themes: competitiveness, security, and values. And these themes will be at the heart of the agenda as I lead the Agricultural and Fisheries Council. The European Union must work to ensure food security, to support farming and fishing families, to protect their incomes, to strengthen competitiveness, to sustain rural and coastal communities, and to strike the right balance between the three pillars of sustainability: economic, social, and environmental. That is why our two central priorities will be to progress as far as possible the discussions on the future of the Common Agricultural Policy post-2027 and to successfully conclude the annual fishing opportunities negotiations. We had a very productive meeting today.
And I want to highlight three important discussions on topics that are priorities for the Irish presidency. First, Christophe, thank you for presenting the new livestock strategy and protein plan to Council. Ministers had a useful first exchange on these important strategies. The ambition is to make the EU livestock and protein sectors more resilient, sustainable, and competitive while also strengthening the EU's food security.
