Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee

Intervenant 10
Good morning and welcome to this meeting of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Select Committee.  The Committee meets today in the conference room of the Westmorland Agricultural Society, where we are attending later today the County Show.  Um, quick word of thanks first of all formally on the record to the office bearers and the staff of the Westmorland Agricultural Society who are hosting us here today, and indeed to our own committee staff who have gone to exceptional efforts to make this possible.  Um, we return today to our inquiry in relation to the future of farming, in particular the future of England's uplands.  So I'm delighted that we have local witnesses here this morning.

Just for our own official record and for the benefit of those who will be following these proceedings, can I invite you please, starting with yourself Adam, to introduce yourselves to the Committee.

Good morning ladies and gentlemen.  My name is Adam Day, I'm the managing director of a not-for-profit farmer support organisation called The Farmer Network, and for my entire career I've worked as a land agent and an auctioneer, mostly across the county of Cumbria.
