Okay, hello everyone and welcome to this press conference following the EU-Moldova intergovernmental conference. We're joined by our Minister of State for European Affairs, Thomas Byrne, the acting Prime Minister of Moldova, Eugeniu Osmochescu, and the EU Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos. I'll first give the floor to Minister Byrne.

Thank you very much. Today is a super Tuesday. It's the most number, the highest number of enlargement accession conferences held in one day since 2002. It is truly a historic day for EU enlargement and I was delighted to chair the third accession conference with Moldova together with Commissioner for EU enlargement Marta Kos and the acting Prime Minister Eugeniu Osmochescu to mark continued momentum and progress on Moldova's accession process and on the EU enlargement process in general.
We opened cluster one just in June and today the Council has secured the opening of cluster six on external relations with Moldova. This is really significant progress and when I was in Chisinau in March or when I met Minister Popșoi in Antalya maybe two months ago, we didn't really imagine, we hoped that this would be possible, but we weren't sure and we didn't imagine that it would really be possible. But Moldova, of course, most importantly, has repeatedly demonstrated its strategic alignment with our Union and its values. So Moldova has done the work. The government has made remarkable progress on its EU accession process.
They are aligning national legislation with the EU acquis across all negotiating chapters. At the same time, Moldovan citizens have chosen to anchor Moldova's EU path in their constitution. Moldova and Moldovan citizens are an example of resilience, courage and determination that we in the EU can only admire and commend. Your commitment to joining our Union is a reminder for all Europeans of the importance of being part of an EU built on the values of freedom and democracy. Over the coming months, we will continue to progress Moldova's candidacy in line with the existing enlargement methodology.
