Okay, afternoon everyone and welcome to this press conference following the General Affairs Council. We're joined by our Minister of State for European Affairs Thomas Byrne and the EU Commissioner for Economy, Productivity, Implementation and Simplification Valdis Dombrovskis. I will first give the floor to Minister Byrne.

Thanks very much. It was my pleasure to chair the first meeting of the General Affairs Council under Ireland's presidency of the Council of the European Union today. I do want to pay tribute to Cyprus and particularly my colleague Marilena Raouna for her work on the Council in the last six months of their presidency.
Now we take up the mantle. This presidency will be guided by the old Irish proverb, Ní neart go cur le chéile, which is strength with unity, and I look forward to steering this Council towards agreement on our priority files from now until the end of our term. I presented this morning my priorities for the Irish presidency of the General Affairs Council, which include of course the Multiannual Financial Framework, simplification, competitiveness, particularly the One Europe One Market roadmap, enlargement, the rule of law, and democratic resilience. The Irish presidency, including the General Affairs Council, will also maintain the Union's unwavering support for Ukraine, and I will work to strengthen our relations with key partners, including what I hope will be a successful second EU-UK summit later this year. I emphasized that the MFF is a central priority for Ireland's presidency and one that I'm personally committed to progressing at this Council.
Today's update that I gave to ministers was an important first step, giving member states the opportunity to hear our approach to negotiations as presidency. The overarching aim is to use the following months now to build the evidence necessary to deliver a revised negotiating box ahead of the October European Council.
