Saab has officially unveiled the Bolide 2 , a next-generation missile engineered to fundamentally transform the lethality of the RBS 70 air defense system. Featuring enhanced terminal flight performance and a significantly larger warhead, this new munition does more than just extend range; its modular architecture establishes a technological shield against the increasingly complex aerial threats of tomorrow. The Swedish defense giant introduced the Bolide 2 as the latest evolution for its flagship Short-Range Air Defense ( SHORAD ) portfolio. Compared to its predecessors, the missile offers superior precision through refined terminal maneuverability, ensuring high-kill probability against agile targets. Modular Design and Future-Proof Architecture The Bolide 2 retains the core strengths of the RBS 70 family: uninterceptable laser guidance and high immunity to electronic countermeasures (unjammable). A standout feature is its modular design , which allows the system to remain compatible with future software-defined upgrades and hardware enhancements. This flexibility ensures that operators can maintain a robust defense line against evolving threats, including advanced Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and cruise missiles. Following a series of successful test fires that validated its peak performance parameters, Saab plans to begin serial production deliveries in 2027 . As modern warfare dynamics shift, this new munition stands out as a cost-effective, high-performance solution. By offering tactical flexibility across both portable and vehicle-integrated platforms, Saab continues to redefine the boundaries of SHORAD doctrine for the 21st century.
