Le COE appelle à la solidarité internationale pour la paix au Soudan après trois ans de conflit armé

As the devastating war in Sudan enters its fourth year, the World Council of Churches (WCC) joins its member churches, ecumenical partners, and all people of goodwill in solemn reflection, prayer, and renewed commitment to peace with justice for the people of Sudan.
Over the past three years, the conflict has inflicted immense suffering—displacing millions, disrupting communities, and deepening humanitarian needs both within Sudan and among refugees across the region and the world. Families have been torn apart, livelihoods destroyed, and the social fabric of the nation profoundly strained. In this context of pain and uncertainty, the enduring faith, resilience, and witness of the churches in Sudan remain a powerful sign of hope.
The WCC takes particular encouragement from recent expressions and commitments by the Episcopal Church of Sudan, which we recognize as significant signs of hope. Their voice reflects not only the longing of the Christian community but also the broader aspirations of the Sudanese people for peace, reconciliation, justice, and restoration of community.
As Archbishop Ezekiel Kondo said:
“On behalf of all the Churches in Sudan, I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation to the friends of the Church and the people of Sudan. Through prayers and giving, I thank you. We believe peace with justice will soon come to the whole of Sudan and the internally displaced people and the refugees around the world will return home.”
This message of gratitude and hope underscores the vital role of global solidarity. The prayers, advocacy, and material support offered by churches and partners worldwide have been a source of strength and encouragement to those enduring the hardships of war. Such solidarity must not diminish but rather deepen in this critical moment.
The WCC reaffirms its unwavering commitment to accompanying the churches and people of Sudan in their pursuit of a just and lasting peace. We call upon all parties to the conflict to cease hostilities, prioritize dialogue, and take concrete steps toward reconciliation and rebuilding the nation. We also urge the international community to intensify diplomatic efforts, humanitarian support, and action for the protection for civilians.
As we mark this sombre anniversary, we lift up our prayers for healing, justice, and restoration. We envision a Sudan where peace prevails, where dignity is upheld, and where all displaced persons and refugees may safely and willingly return home to rebuild their lives.
The WCC stands in faith and solidarity with the people of Sudan, trusting that, through God’s grace and inspiration, peace with justice will indeed prevail.
