India Unveils Advanced Armored Platform (AAP) for Indian Army

Featuring high mobility both on land and in water, and offering STANAG Level 5 protection, the Advanced Armoured Platform — equipped with an indigenously produced 30 mm unmanned turret — is poised to transform the entire dynamics of the modern battlefield. Strategic Collaboration Between DRDO and Industry Giants At a ceremony held at the Vehicle Research and Development Establishment (VRDE) in Ahilyanagar, attended by Dr. S. V. Kamat, Secretary of Defence R&D and Chairman of DRDO, the Advanced Armoured Platform systems — available in both wheeled and tracked configurations — were unveiled to the public. Optimized for Infantry Combat Vehicle (ICV) and Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) roles, the platforms have been manufactured by Pune-based industry partners Tata Advanced Systems (TASL) and Bharat Forge Limited (BFL). Furthermore, the involvement of numerous MSMEs in the project highlights the maturity achieved by India’s indigenous defence ecosystem. AAP Platform Technical Specifications and Operational Flexibility Thanks to its modular design, the Advanced Armoured Platform can be easily adapted to various mission profiles. Here are the standout technical details: Firepower:  The platforms are equipped with an indigenously designed 30 mm unmanned turret system. This system also features a 7.62 mm PKT machine gun alongside an anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) launch capability. Superior Protection:  Modular blast and ballistic protection packages provide high-level security meeting STANAG Level 4 and 5 standards. Mobility:  Integration of a high-power engine and automatic transmission grants the systems high speed and the ability to negotiate steep gradients. Amphibious Capability:  An integrated hydro-jet system allows the vehicle to rapidly cross water obstacles without preparation, offering significant operational flexibility.
