Built Environment Committee House of Lords

00:02 - 00:42
Speaker 1
Good morning, and welcome back to the Built Environment Select Committee here in the House of Lords.  As everyone knows, we have started a new inquiry into younger people and their role in the built environment sector.  Today, last week, we had a a a brilliant session on education, really education system, national curriculum, but also skills through to employment.  Today, we're moving that on slightly, which is we're gonna talk about younger people and their engagement.  Does it matter how do you do it?

What best is is the best way forward to do it?  And before us, we have three, yet again, three very good guests witnesses.  And I'd like to actually just very briefly introduce yourselves, if you may, and perhaps, Theresa, if we could start with you.  Good morning.

Speaker 2
Good morning.  My name's Theresa Strachan, and thank you for inviting me today to speak to you.  I have the privilege of being a chartered town planner, and I have been for forty almost forty years now, working mostly in the North Of England, in the Northeast.  I'm passionate about the role that planners have in engaging young people in the whole agenda around the environment and communities.  So I've worked across the public sector, in private consultancy, with Planning Age, which is a charity and part of the Royal Town Planning Institute, and more latterly with students at Newcastle University researching and teaching around skills for working with young people on planning matters.

So as part of my discussion, part of my responses, I probably will make reference to that experience, but I'm not necessarily representing any of those previous bodies, although my views might align.  And and I look forward to the discussion today.
