Thank you very much indeed, miss Jardine.  It's a pleasure to serve, under your chairship today.  I beg to move that the committee has considered the control of trade in endangered species brackets amendment and revocation regulations twenty twenty six, which were laid in draft before the house on the March 19.  This instrument makes targeted but important changes to how we protect endangered species while supporting legitimate and sustainable trade.  They're a critical part of the government's commitment to securing nature recovery and sustainable economic growth as outlined in the Corrie Review.

And these regs are a practical example of that approach in action.  The UK wildlife trade regulations give effect to our international obligations under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, CITES.  CITES ensures that international trade in wild animals and plants is legal, sustainable, and does not threaten species survival.  The United Kingdom has long played a leading role internationally in strengthening the convention and combating illegal wildlife trades, and we continue to do so.  In The UK, we deliver CIT's controls through a licensing framework administered by the Animal and Plant Health Agency or AFA.
