Speaker 2
My name is Brian Leveson.  I was a practicing criminal lawyer from 1970.  I became a silk in 1986.  I went on to the high court bench in 2000, the Court of Appeal in 2006.  I was the senior presiding judge for England and Wales between 2007, 2009, the inaugural chair of the Sentencing Council between 2010 and 2013, president of the Queen's Bench Division from 2013, and latterly head of criminal justice.

I retired at the compulsory age of 70 in 2019.  I am now the investigatory powers commissioner.  I've spent the last fifteen months my life seeking to review criminal justice, a subject which I thought I'd rather left behind.
