So, good afternoon everyone, and welcome to this press conference following the Ecofin Council.  We are joined by our Finance Minister, Mikes Keravnoz, and by Valdis Tobrovsky, the European Commissioner for Economy and Productivity Implementation and Simplification.  I will first give the floor to Minister Geravnoz, who will take you through the main points that were discussed at this morning's council meeting.  Minister Geravnoz?

Intervenant 2
Thank you, Maria.  Before I start, I would like to convey, on behalf of the ECOFIN Council, our deepest sympathy to the victims and the families of the victims of the tragic train incident that took place in Andalusia on Sunday.  We all stand in solidarity with the Spanish people at this time of sorrow.  Today, as it is the first Ecofin Council under our presidency, I presented the priorities of the Cyprus presidency to my colleagues in the Ecofin Council.  An autonomous union, open to the world, is the motto of our presidents.

Guided by this motto, we are committed to delivering an ambitious, pragmatic, and result-oriented presidency.  We're going to create momentum towards a thriving, more competitive Europe.  Our mandate comes at a time of international geopolitical tensions and unpredictability, which require the European Union to address mounting challenges.  In the field of economic and financial affairs, enhancing the European Union's financial autonomy and reinforcing its global economic standing will be our guiding principles over the next 6 months.  We will advance legislative work on the Civics and Investment Union, on the EU tax decluttering and simplification agenda, and make progress for a modernized customs union alongside other key initiatives.

Last but definitely not least, a central priority will be ensuring that the European Union continues to financially support Ukraine.  We are fully committed to ensuring that Ukraine receives the necessary and timely financing to sustain its defense and to support its future reconstruction.  We have a lot of important work ahead of us.  Our presidency will work hard, and we look forward to close cooperation with all member states.  As part of today's meeting, we received an update from the Commission on the economic and financial impact of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine.
