Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. Can I please invite you to take your seats? If you're coming in, we know there's a very long queue at security, which is normal and reassuring, but we understand that it also takes up quite a bit of our time. Thank you very much for taking your seat. So good morning, and welcome to this new edition of the EU Tax Symposium, co organized by the European Commission and the European Parliament, which also explains why we are in these beautiful premises.
We will be looking today at how we can build prosperity, thanks to a strengthened competitiveness and a reinforced fairness. Theme, lots of discussions coming up, lots of exchanges with our speakers, amongst you, hope as well because networking, as we all know, is an essential part of such events. A very warm welcome, a very special welcome to Commissioner Hoekstra and to government ministers joining us this morning as well as to members of the European Parliament and members of the National Parliament of the Member States. Good morning to you all. A very warm welcome also to those of you who are following us online.
I'm looking for the camera. I think it's there. Very warm welcome to you, and, we're very happy to have you with us. Just to give you an idea of the scale of this event, we have some 900 people more or less in this room at the moment are still coming in. There are just as many of you registered to join us online.
This means that we have almost 2,000 people together today to discuss what is supposed to be a issue, but I believe the interest that so many of you have shown in this event shows that it is not a issue. We will, have a few housekeeping points before we dive into the heart of the matter. First of all, we have interpretation. Interpreters are here around us in the room, and interpretation is available in all 23 languages of the union. Same thing for you online.
