We welcome you warmly to today's event, which takes place on the occasion of Europe Day, a day that does not only honor the past, but causes to reflect and envision the future of our European family, the European Union. Europe Day is celebrated on the May 9, a date of historic significance. In 1950, the French minister foreign minister, Robert presented the Schuman declaration, which is considered the foundation of modern European Union ever since then. This date is a symbol of unity cooperation in Europe.
It reminds us of the values on which the union was built, peace, democracy, freedom, solidarity. It's an opportunity to reflect on what we have achieved and what we have to achieve. Recently, we celebrated the twenty first anniversary since accession of Cyprus to the European Union.
