Thank you so much, Chair, dear colleagues, friends. It's a pleasure to be here again. I'm sure that we can all agree that the past few months have been very eventful and that there is enough to talk about today. So, I would like to present what we are doing to meet the challenges that we face, to accelerate the progress that we need to build a stronger energy union for all of our citizens. To begin, since the early days of March, the Strait of Hormuz has been closed and this has disrupted global economies and global energy supplies.
Once again, the world has been hit by a fossil fuel crisis. And once again, people and businesses across Europe are feeling the impact. In terms of security of supply, I'm glad to report that we have no immediate concern for our winter's gas for next winter. However, the physical oil market is expected to be in deficit for the remainder of the year, opening certain risks for the supply of jet fuel, diesel and other refined products. This will require our firm attention.
For both gas and oil, we are monitoring the situation closely with Member States and industry stakeholders, in particular through our coordination groups. Although our supplies of energy are secure as it is now, we can see that the prices are rising. After just one month of the conflict, Europe's fossil fuel imports bill rose by 20 billion euros. That's about 650 billion euros per day. So we pay 650 million euros more per day, but we don't get as much as one single molecule more than we usually do.
