Speaker 1
Ready?  Thank you.  Good morning, your excellencies.  Thank you all very much indeed for coming to help us with our inquiry into national resilience.  As you know, this is a public session, and we're being broadcast now.

There will be a transcript that will be sent to you in a couple of days' time.  So if there are any minor factual inaccuracies that you'd like to correct, you will have the opportunity to do that then.  We've got a set of questions that we would like to ask you, and I think we've got about an hour and a half of your time to get through it all.  So after we've asked after I've asked the first question, perhaps when you're answering, you could begin just by introducing yourselves and then go into the answer to the question.  That's all I need to say by way of introduction, isn't it?

Okay.  And could I remind members of the panel to declare any interests that they have before they speak for the first time today?  Thank you.  So I'd like to kick off by asking you your resilience and national preparedness is long standing, and we hope to be learning a lot from you.  But I would like to ask how the current geopolitical situation is affecting your countries, particularly with regard to article five of NATO, the Ukraine war, and, of course, most recently, the the the situation in The Middle East.

How have those factors impacted on your on the importance of homeland security and resilience?  And perhaps I could start with the the Finnish ambassador and ask ambassador Turunin, perhaps in your answer also, to comment on looking backwards a little bit as well as looking forward and saying how the Finnish resilience mindset and activities were influenced and have been sustained starting with the the the winter war of nineteen thirty nine.  So ambassador Turunin from Finland, would you be kind enough to start?
