Welcome to this, uh, one-off session, uh, of the Health and Social Care where we are doing the pre-appointment hearing of the Chair of the Care Quality Commission. And it is, uh, very, uh, my pleasure, very much my pleasure to welcome Baroness Julia Neuberger, who is the DBE, who is the, uh, preferred candidate of the government. Thank you so much for joining us this morning. Um, may I start by, I mean, a bit of a preface.
Uh, ever since this committee has been meeting and indeed before that point, it's fair to say that the CQC has received significant criticism for its own performance. Uh, we've had a number of different hearings with them over the years, at, at points feeling slightly more hopeful than not. But I must be honest, I start, uh, this appointment hearing feeling relatively down in the dumps that we haven't got further than we have. Could you explain to us and the public, why do you want to take on this role right now?
