National Resilience Committee House of Lords

01:20 - 03:26
Speaker 1
Good morning and welcome and thank you all three of you for coming to help us out with this really important and very challenging inquiry into national resilience and preparedness.

Just to remind you before we get onto questions that this is a public session, it's being recorded live, and there will be a transcript that will be sent to you in a couple of days' time so that you can correct any minor mistakes.  And if there's anything that occurs to you that you should have said that you didn't, then we would always welcome any supplementary evidence in writing that you feel would be helpful.  And when you give your first answer to the first question, it would be helpful if you could just introduce yourself very briefly for the record.

Okay.  And as you know, we've got a number of questions for you, and I'll start off with the first one.  If we're looking to identify a baseline of information on which to build about public awareness and preparedness in the event of severe national or international risks, to what extent do you have any data that gives us that level of awareness and preparedness at the moment?

And how does that vary amongst different segments of the population, as between young, old, male, female, people who live in the devolved administrations, for example?  And perhaps I could start by asking Nancy Hey to kick off, please.  Thank you.
