We'll now start with the first point on today's agenda, dedicated to youth policy. This will be an information item on the outcome of the discussion held at the informal EU Youth Dialogue breakfast, which took place earlier today with representatives of youth organizations. These youth representatives came both from member states and from three countries of our eastern neighborhood: Ukraine, Moldova, and Belarus. Other participants of the youth breakfast, in accordance with the standard format, were Poland as the previous presidency, Cyprus and Ireland as the incoming presidencies, the European Commission, the European Parliament, the European Youth Forum, and selected stakeholders. During the informal breakfast, we shared perspectives on promoting resilience and engagement among young Europeans.
This topic is closely linked to the theme of the exchange of views on strengthening resilience among young people through the next ERASMUS Plus program that we will hold later this morning. Resilience and engagement might sound like trendy political buzzwords, but given our current geopolitical realities, these should be viewed as priorities across the EU policy spectrum. What does this mean for the young generations of Europe? It means they need to be prepared. They need to be proactive.
They need to be aware of many threats to the European way of life, to our fundamental democratic values, and to sustainable prosperity, and they need to learn how to respond to those threats in the form of civic engagement. At the same time, we almost forget that we are not islands. We do not exist in a vacuum that protects us from being affected by what happens to our neighbors. That's why the participation of the youth representatives of the Eastern neighborhood countries in this morning's event was of great importance. It's not just tokenism, but an acknowledgment that we, they, and us share values and interests, that we know we have to step up to protect democracy, and that we recognize that supporting young people in their civic and democratic engagement is the only way forward.
