Representation of the People Bill House of Commons

00:01 - 01:47
Speaker 1
Good afternoon.  Would you please ensure that all electronic devices are switched to sun or switched off?  We are going to continue line by line scrutiny.  The selection list for today's sitting is available in the room and on the parliamentary website.  It shows the clauses, schedules, and selected amendments that have been grouped together for debate.

I remind members who have put their name to a lead amendment in a group that they will be called first.  Or in the case of a stand apart debate, the minister will be called to speak to be speak first.  Other members are then free to indicate if they wish to speak by standing in their place.  At the end of the debate, on a group of amendments and new clauses and schedules, I shall call the member who moved the lead amendment or the new clause again before they sit down.  They will need to indicate if they wish to withdraw the amendment or press it to a decision.

If any member wishes to press any other amendment, and this includes grouped new clauses and schedules in any group, if they wish to press it to a vote, they need to let me know.  The order of decisions follows the order in which the amendments appear in the amendment paper.  I hope that that's helpful.  At the break, we were debating group 35 and amendment 34 to clause 60 with which it was convenient to consider amendment 35, amendment 36, amendment 37, clause 60 stand apart, new clause 13, new clause 32, new clause 52.  Lisa Smart had moved amendment 34, and the minister had completed her response, so I call the shadow minister.

Thank you very much.  It's a pleasure to serve under your chairmanship, sir Desmond.  I know it's the first time we've met on this committee, I know that you like good order.  So I will be very brief.  We was the one time the Liberal Democrats have ever cheered me on, so I'm glad we've got I'm glad we were in agreement on that.
