Speaker 1
Order. Okay. Welcome everyone to this morning's meeting of the Culture, Media, and Sport Committee. I'm not Dame Caroline Dyneid. She's away, so I'm keeping the chair warm for her while she's gone.
And we're on our second oral inquiry of the evidence on BBC charter review. So we've got two expert witnesses today, Collier, who is principal at three Reasons and MTM, and Jill Hind, who's managing director of media at Ender's Analysis. Welcome both of you. Making it in on a tube strike day as well, but it takes some doing. So before we start, do any members wish to declare an interest?
I'm not don't know if it counts. I used to work for the BBC a very long time ago in the nineties. But okay. That's that. Right.
So I think I'll start with the first question just to kick off, and then we'll all chip in. So I wanted to ask about the context in which the BBC is trying to maintain audiences and viability. So first of all, for Rob Collier, the government said that it wants to explore BBC funding models that support the BBC serving UK audiences in an increasingly competitive media environment. Can you explain what they mean by this and what the challenges are at the moment for the BBC?
