Order. Order. Welcome to the treasury select select committee on Wednesday, 03/18/2026. Today, we are talking to the financial ombudsman service about their work. And I'm delighted to welcome Liam Coleman, who's the interim chair at the Financial Ombudsman Service.
He's joined by Jenny Simmons, who's the interim chief executive at the Financial Ombudsman Service, and Dane James Dipple Johnston, who's the interim chief ombudsman at the FOS. Often, we might refer it to as the FOS, which is the abbreviation, of course. A lot of interims in place. And since we scheduled this hearing, we found out on Monday from the government, not us specifically, it was announced to the public in general, that there is a consultation about the future of the financial ombudsman service. So if I could start with you, mister Coleman, when did you first become aware of this plan by the treasury to take over the appointment of the chair?

So I think towards the end of last year, I was made aware that they were considering that.

Okay. So that was a they was talking to you about considering it. Did they say that they were then planning to consult, or did they give you any idea of the time frame for that?
