10 June 2026

Financial Services Regulation Committee House of Lords

00:00 - 00:15
Speaker 3
Welcome to today's meeting, which is the first oral session as part of the committee's inquiry into the regulation of consumer insurance market.
00:16 - 00:40
Speaker 2
And I thank you, Mr. Scott, for attending.  This session is open to the public, is broadcast live, and is subsequently accessible via the parliamentary website.  A verbatim transcript will be taken of the evidence and will be put on the parliamentary website.  Mr. Scott, would you like just to introduce yourself and your background?
00:42 - 01:02
Speaker 4
Yes, so Matt Scott, I'm the co-founder of Insurance DataLab, market intelligence firm for the insurance industry.  My background originally was in the pensions world, doing actuarial work at Aon, retrained as an insurance journalist, and then, yeah, set up this business around five, six years ago, essentially to help provide kind of comparable, digestible data on the performance of insurance companies.
01:02 - 01:22
Speaker 1
Excellent.  So, could we just start with a general question about how consumers are able to understand the insurance products they purchase and how they're able to find appropriate insurance products to purchase?
