Okay, evening everyone and welcome to this press conference following today's General Affairs Council. We're joined by Ireland's Minister of State for European Affairs, Thomas Byrne, and the EU Commissioner for Budget, Anti-Fraud and Public Administration, Piotr Serafin. I'll first give the floor to Minister Byrne.

Thanks very much, Owen, and I will speak briefly in Irish at the start, just for a few of the paragraphs. And while differences remain, I feel that the intensive work of the Irish presidency in reaching this point is both recognized and appreciated by member states. I do want to thank and recognize the significant work of Piotr, Commissioner Serafin, your leadership in the Commission in reaching the moment and the cooperation with the Irish presidency. Now is the time for compromise. I remain confident that an agreement on the next MFF can be reached this year, if compromise can be found.
EU leaders will discuss it in detail this week at the European Council, and I'm sure that the discussions will prove useful. Now, competitiveness. This is at the heart of the Irish presidency. Today I updated the Council on the progress made on simplification and the One Europe, One Market roadmap. This includes agreements on the Council mandate for the Food and Feed Safety Omnibus and the Council mandate for a core part of the Environment Omnibus.
