Order. Order. And welcome to today's meeting of the science innovation and technology select committee. So we last heard from Google x TikTok in Meta in February 2025 as part of our inquiry into how algorithm spread misinformation online. Our inquiry identified serious problems in this area, and we recommended a number of ways to address them.
So we want to see what progress has been made since then as well as discuss proposed social media age limits and wider online harms. So first, let me thank you all for joining us today, for coming to the select committee to give evidence. And what I'm going to suggest propose is that I will ask a question to the each of you to answer in turn, and we'll go from left to right from Rebecca Simpson to Zoe Dame. Each of you introduce yourself, your company, and in as part of briefly answering the my my opening question. Last time you were here with us, you gave us assurances about the way in which you were dealing with and addressing misinformation and social media harms.
In the last few months, we have seen, misinformation about the Bondi Beach victim. We've seen political, elections be be be, influenced by misinformation. We've seen fake photos of burning US air carriers as part of the Iranian misinformation over the Iranian war, fake evidence that about the missile attack on a school in Iran. Has anything changed for the better? I'll start with you, Rebecca Simpson.

Thank you. My name is Rebecca Simpson. I'm the director of public policy in The UK for Meta. Appreciate the opportunity to be here today. To your question, since we were last here, as you rightly point out, the misinformation challenge remains very real.
