Thank you, Pádraig, and good evening, ladies and gentlemen.  I am delighted that today, after a long meeting and a long series of meetings, that the Agrifish Council reached a partial general approach on the post-2027 Common Agricultural Policy framework and a political agreement on fishing opportunities in the Baltic Sea for 2027.

These are significant achievements for the Irish presidency and important steps for the future of agriculture and fisheries sectors.  I would like to thank Commissioner Hansen and Commissioner Kadis and my EU counterparts for their positive and productive engagement.  As mentioned, we secured a political agreement on fishing opportunities in the Baltic Sea for 2027.  This is a significant and complex annual EU fisheries negotiation.  The agreement today reflects the good cooperation between Baltfish member states and provides the fisheries sector with the certainty that it needs going into next year.

This agreement sets catch limits for key fish stocks, including herring, cod, plaice, sprat, and salmon, and aims to support the recovery of fish stocks and protect the marine environment, while ensuring a viable future for the fishing sector and the coastal communities that depend on it.  A central priority for the Irish presidency is the successful conclusion of the annual fishing opportunities negotiations in 2027 at December Agri-Fish Council.  I believe the Irish presidency has demonstrated that it is working collaboratively and effectively with other member states and the Commission to deliver positive reforms for the EU fisheries sector.
