Women and Equalities Committee House of Commons
28:20 - 29:15
Speaker 1
Good afternoon, and welcome to the Women in Equality Select Committee. Today, we're holding an evidence session on the prevalence of sexually transmitted infections, and I am delighted that we have such an experienced panel in front of us. We'll hear from Doctor Amanda Doyle, OBE, National Director for Primary Care, Community Vaccination, and Screening Services at NHS England. Kathy Morgan, Director of Secondary Prevention, Department of Social Health and Social Care. Kate Folklard, Head of Program Delivery and Service Improvement, Blood Safety, Hepatitis, STIs, and HIV Division at the UK Health Security Agency.
That is a mouthful. Katt Smithson, Chief Executive of the British Association for Sexual Health and HIV (BASH), and Richard Angel OBE, Chief Executive at the Terrence Higgins Trust. All. I'm going to hand straight over to Catherine.
29:15 - 29:32
Speaker 2
Hi. Thank you, everyone, for coming this afternoon and appearing before the committee. My first question is, please, if I may. Kate, could you outline for us the recent trends in SCI prevalence and where they are?
29:32 - 29:51
Speaker 3
Do you have concerns? Yes, of course. Thank you. So, just to give you a sense of scale. The most recent number of new STI diagnoses is 1,665,000, which is slightly down on the previous year, but that overall figure hides a lot of variation.
