Speaker 1
Order, order. Welcome everybody to this hearing of the Science, Innovation and Technology Committee looking into the neuroscience of child brain development. We're very pleased to welcome our guests this morning. We've obviously had apologies. I'm chairing this morning because our chair is away overseas on a visit, but hopefully I'll do a passable job in her absence.
So as I say, this is all part of our inquiry into the neuroscience and development of childhood and adolescent brains. And we're very pleased that following our round table to welcome our esteemed guests this morning, Professor Blakemore, who we know well. I think this is our third encounter.
I'm sorry that I missed the round table, but good to see you again. Professor Denis Mareschal from Birkbeck and Dr Dusana Dorjee, who's joining us online from York. Welcome to you all and thank you. Could just before we start, just so that we know best how to direct our questions to each of you, could you just explain to us the particular area of science that you're expert in in this regard so that we have a sense of of where we're directing things? Professor Blakemore, perhaps you could kick us off.

Yeah, sure. I'm Professor Sarah-Jayne Blakemore. I'm Professor of Psychology at the University of Cambridge. And for the last 23 years, first of all at UCL and now at Cambridge, I've led the Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience research group. And our research focuses on the development of the brain and the mind and social behavior in adolescence.
