Order.  Order.  Welcome to today's meeting of the Joint Committee's National Security Strategy.  And today is our first session on looking at societal resilience and having a national conversation.  We're delighted to be joined by Vincent Yao, representative at Taipei, representative officer in The UK.

Representative Yall, thanks very much for joining.  Sorry for the delay to proceedings.  And just to say, we have, obviously, a series of questions which we'd like to get through by forty five minutes.  We now have intelligence that tells us that the next vote will be in forty five minutes or so time.  So we must really get through that because we don't wanna cause you any more any more problems today.

So if I could just start really, interesting to see what's happening in terms of defense spending, the growth in defense spending for Taiwan, which I think has built up in '24 to 2.5%.  Can you give an idea of how much is being spent on resilient stroke security

in Taiwan?  Well, Taiwan's defense spending's actually, our president announced that by the end of this year, it would be reached to 3% of our total GDP, and by 2030, it would be 5% of our total GDP.  But Taiwan is maybe the twentieth largest economy in the world.  5% of the GDP is actually a huge money.  But our whole of this society defense resilience budget is not only coming from our defense budget, it's but also coming from, for example, Coast Guard department's budget or from Ministry of Education, Ministry of Economic Affairs budget.
