International Relations and Defence Committee House of Lords

00:05 - 01:50
Speaker 14
Thank you.  Well, welcome to professor Roy, professor Woods, and doctor Slaughter.  Thank you very much indeed for making yourselves available to speak the committee and offer your perspectives on the future of multilateralism.  This is the first session this first session of our inquiry, a new inquiry, where we're taking, oral evidence, this and one further from professional diplomats.  And that's all to sort of form help us form the structure of the inquiry going forward.

And the session will be streamed live on parliament.  We are live on the parliamentary web website.  A transcript of the session will be taken, and we will send it to you so you can make modest corrections.  You can't revisit calamities, but you can make modest corrections to the transcript if necessary.  I'm sure you'll be word perfect.

Can I remind the members here that if they have any interests pertinent to their question, private commercial interests, that you should declare them?  And can I start just by allowing you all just a couple of minutes just to to set the scene, just introduce yourselves personally and how you sort of what justifies your immaculate knowledge of this particular subject, and then we'll get on to the formal questions?  There'll be eight that we've preconsidered.  There may be a few sort of dynamic questions.  I know doctor Slaughter, I think you've got a hard time set of 10:00 to finish.

And I know Nyrie, if I've got the pronunciation right, you probably need to finish certainly by 10:15.  I don't know professor Roy, if you've got a bit of time, but we'll see how we get there.  Okay.  So perhaps, doctor Slaughter beaming in, can I ask you just to say a couple of minutes about yourself and set your scene?
