International Development Committee House of Commons

00:01 - 01:02
Speaker 1
Order order.  I would like to start this session of the International Development Select Committee.  We are blessed with a a full range from FCDO today.  Thank you all so much for making the time.  The reason for that is you're going through the process of announcing the changes that you're making to how you deliver humanitarian and development assistance and support.

We know where some of the shifts are.  We know where some of the cuts are.  And hopefully, today's session, you'll be able to explain to us the rationale behind it and put some more details onto what's already come in the statement that you gave last week.  We also had a session with the or I had a session with the prime minister yesterday who gave his intention in this area.  So we're very keen that you are still committed to the development agenda even in these difficult situations that we find ourselves in right now.

I wonder, foreign secretary, if you could sort of introduce yourself and and your team, then we'll get straight into it, if that's alright.

Speaker 2
Thank you very much.  Thank you, chair, for having us.  Thank you to the committee as well for having us.  We obviously have Baroness Chapman as our development minister, who I know you would have heard from before, Nick Dyer, who was our second permanent undersecretary, and Melinda Bohanan, who is the director general who covers development as well.  So I'm here and happy to answer your questions today.
