Good morning and welcome to this evidence session of the Industry and Regulators Committee as part of our inquiry on the relationship between the government and the defence industry. The meeting is being broadcast live on on the parliamentary website. There'll be a transcript taken by Hansard of this. You'll have a chance to look for any corrections or misunderstandings we've had before that goes public if you like. But I'd like to welcome you here.
My name is Diane Hayter and I will introduce the other members of the committee as they pose questions. And we're delighted to have with us John Godfrey today from City UK. Would you just like to formally introduce yourself and then we'll start the questions.

Yes, thank you chair and thank you for inviting me along. I am the managing director for public affairs, policy and economic research at the City UK and which is a member organization which represents the whole ecosystem of the financial world if you like in London. And prior to that I worked for many years in business, latterly for a long time for Legal and General, the insurance company. And one of the things I do at the City UK is to look after our defence and resilience group which is one of our largest groups which works on aspects of financing for defence and resilience as the title suggests. So thank you for having me today.

And you've you've really led straight into the question I wanted to to ask. So thank you. Which was what are your reasons for setting up that defence and resilience group which we're obviously particularly interested in. We're interested in how well it's working, what are the main issues you've identified and what do you think is needed to to address any issues you've looked at. So quite a broad question.
