Public Accounts Committee House of Commons

Speaker 8
So order order.  Welcome to the public accounts committee on Monday, June 1.  Today marks the start of our compensation week, where we are taking the unusual step in dedicating two separate educate evidence sessions to examine the government's administration of compensation schemes in order to highlight the importance of this issue.  So based on the NAIRS report on this subject, we will be examining operational performance of seven schemes, including wind rush, LGBT financial recognition, infected blood, as well as four scheme separate schemes within the post office horizon scheme.  As of February 2026, the government had paid around 3 and a half billion pounds across these seven schemes with an estimated further 11,400,000,000 potentially still to be paid.

So today, we are joined by a cast of witnesses who have a huge wealth of experience in of some of these compensation schemes, and our session this afternoon is split into two separate panels.  On Thursday, we will then be hearing from senior government officials on the same issue.  This afternoon, we will be looking to hear from our witnesses about compensation scheme design, engagement, support for claimants, as well as recommendations for change moving forward.  Uh-huh.  So we have a very important and experienced team this afternoon.

I'm gonna ask each of you, starting with you, Reverend Clive, if you would like to just introduce yourself, and then moving to your your right, sir Alan and Peter, and then Kate, please.  So how would you like us to address you?  Reverend Clive Clive, how would you like us to address you?
01:41 - 01:42
Reverend Clive would be fine.
