Welcome to today's meeting. This is the eleventh oral session, as part of the committee's inquiry into childhood vaccination rates in England. I'd like to thank doctor Nick Sayer and Caroline Smith for attending this afternoon. They'll introduce themselves in just a moment. The session is open to the public and it's broadcast, and it will subsequently be accessible via the parliamentary website.
A verbatim transcript will be taken, of the evidence, it'll be published on the parliamentary website. A few days after the session, you, our witnesses, will receive a copy of the transcript to check for accuracy, and it would be very helpful if you could advise us of any small corrections as quickly as possible so we can get it up on the Internet. There's about 3,000 people, and what they saw is that over half of them decided to get vaccinated, and over half of those got vaccinated there and then in the community pharmacy. So pharmacy is kind of where it needs to be. The the challenge is it's often not commissioned to to do the thing it needs to do and it goes back to my point so the ten year health strategy for NHS committed that in 2026 community pharmacies are going to be vaccinating for HPV vaccines as a I assume some sort of catch up program. This is quite exciting and I think really quite timely. During the pandemic, there was a group of children who weren't vaccinated for obvious reasons.
So they now need to be vaccinated and there's a kind of a ticking clock on that. It's it's now June. We don't know what's gonna happen with that. We don't know when it's gonna be. We don't know who's gonna do it, how it's gonna work.
