Industry and Regulators Committee House of Lords
00:05 - 01:36
Speaker 1
543. Good morning. This is the Industry and Regulators Committee of the House of Lords. We're meeting today to look at the Office for Nuclear Regulation, which is an area that we haven't looked at previously. Our witnesses this morning are Mike Finnity, who is the Chief Executive and Chief Nuclear Inspector at the Office for Nuclear Regulation, and Dr. Nicola Crawford, who is the Chair of the Office for Nuclear Regulation.
So, thank you very much for coming, and welcome to both of you. I think it's fair to say that neither of you has been in these specific roles for very long, but I think, Mike, you've had quite a bit of experience in the industry. And, Nikola, you've had quite a bit of experience with regulation, including in New Zealand. So if there are things coming from that that you think we can learn from, I think we'd be happy to hear them from you. But perhaps you can start by telling us what you think your coal role is, what you've been charged with doing by the government and indeed by parliament, and whether you think there's clarity about your role that actually means that people understand exactly what you're charged with.
Who would?

Speaker 2
Would you like to start? I'll start. Thank you. And I'll start with the role and then move on to role clarity after that. So, starting with the role, we're proud to be a strong, independent, credible regulator that inspires public confidence and is respected by the sector.
