Order. Welcome to this afternoon's meeting of the culture, media, and sports select committee. Today, we're holding the first of two sessions on the independent review of the Arts Council England. Now the second session will be with Arts Council England itself, and that's gonna take place after Easter. But today, I'm absolutely delighted to welcome Baroness Hodge of Barking, who is no stranger to select committees, having been the chair of the very well respected accounts committee for a a full five years.
So we've in an episode of Poacher Turned Gamekeeper, she is here today to answer questions in her capacity as the leader of the Independent Review of Arts Council England. Farroness Hodge, thank you so much for coming along today and for your incredible work chairing this very important review. Before I start, can I remind members to declare any interests at the point that they ask their questions? Now we've had a good old look at your report, Baroness Hodge. You've made some sweeping recommendations.
Can you just talk us about talk to us about where this started? How concerned were you at the outset by what you knew of the Arts Council? Where did you see as being the opportunities? Where did you see as being the challenges?

You know, interesting enough, I have been culture minister, so I'd had a close relationship with the with the Arts Council during that period. And until the point I on the review, I also chaired Theatre of Stratford East. So I've had dealings with them there over time. But I came with absolutely no preconceptions to to the task. And I think one of the things that surprised me, I mean lots of things, people were really passionate and that that everybody's really committed.
