Good afternoon and welcome to the press room of the European Parliament. Today is Tuesday, 7th of July, and we are here with Executive President Fitto, Commissioner Hansen and Commissioner Várhelyi for our college read-out. Executive Vice-President, the floor is yours.

Thank you. Good afternoon and welcome to the read-out of our college meeting. Today we adopted an action plan on cybersecurity and artificial intelligence, which Executive Vice-President Virkkunen will present to you immediately after this press conference. We also adopted the livestock strategy and the protein action plan to make Europe's agri-food system more resilient, strategic and secure. I will give you the details on these two initiatives shortly, together with my colleagues Commissioner Várhelyi and Commissioner Hansen.
Before that, let me draw your attention to our registration of a European Citizens' Initiative on the introduction of an unconditional basic income throughout the EU. I would like to recall that the Commission has not analyzed the substance of this initiative at this stage. Registration means that the organizers can now begin the 12-month period for collecting signatures. If they collect at least 1 million signatures from at least seven Member States, the Commission will then have to act. The Spokesperson Service is publishing a press release as we speak, where you can find further details on this.
And finally, at today's college meeting, we approved several senior management appointments. Declan Costello has been appointed as Director-General in the Reform and Investment Task Force of the Secretariat-General. This decision takes effect on 16th July 2026. Maria Teresa Fabregas Fernandez has been appointed as Deputy Director-General in the Reform and Investment Task Force of the Secretariat-General. This decision also takes effect on 16th July 2027.
