EC Midday press briefing of 02/07/2026

2 juillet 2026

European Commission Commission européenne

00:01 - 01:17
Intervenant 5
Bon anniversaire aussi, Paola.  Merci.  Odile Harvey pour Radio-Nord-Bretagne.  I continue in English because I have my sources in English today.  Now, it seems that the humanitarian community is getting more and more vocal and complaining that the international community is getting more and more disinterested in the conflict in Sudan and its consequences on the neighboring countries, namely Chad.

Apparently, there are more than one million people who fled Sudan and they are at the border of Chad and other countries, neighboring countries.  Lack of waters, epidemics, sexual violence, etc.  The condition is terrible.  So, what is your reaction about those positions from the humanitarian community who normally is generally discreet, but now they try to speak up and they want more reaction from the international community, including the EU.  Thank you.
01:17 - 01:28
Intervenant 2
Thank you, Odile, for raising the question of Sudan also in this press room, which allows us indeed also to clarify our position there.  Efa.
01:28 - 02:07
Intervenant 3
Thank you, Odile.  You are on the other side today, I was not able to find you.  We are well aware of the fact that Sudan is the largest humanitarian crisis in the world that we face and we have reiterated and stressed several times that Sudan cannot become a forgotten crisis.  We have allocated 360 million in aid this year, European Commission.  This is for Sudan, but also for the neighboring countries because, as you point out correctly, this is not just an issue in Sudan.
