European Commission Commission européenne

Intervenant 1
Let's turn to a different topic.  On China, Chinese Commerce Minister has concluded a tour in the Nordic countries.  The issue of the trade imbalance of course has come up.  From the Chinese side, they say that they are willing or ready to facilitate exports to China, but not so much to curb exports to the EU, which is one of the EU demands.  If you, so my question is first if you can confirm that for the EU, for the Commission, it's important both things, to facilitate exports to China but also to limit Chinese exports to the EU.

And yeah, basically that's the point.

Thanks for your question, Jorge.  Look, I'm not going to say anything beyond what was expressed very clearly last week by our President, but in particular by our Trade Commissioner following his all-day meetings and the first kick-off meeting of the new trade structured consultation with China that took place last Monday.  The new TIC has four work streams.  Technical level meetings will happen under those four work streams in the coming weeks and months, and we will take stock in the autumn to see what progress has been made and we will make a plan based on that.  So we're not going to say more at this point on EU-China relations as they pertain to trade.

The outcomes of last week's meeting between Commissioner Šefčovič and Minister Wang were very clear.  There's a plan in place for what happens next.  That work will continue and we look forward to seeing the outcomes of that work.  Follow-up.
