Thank you.  Thank you so much for inviting me to join you in this very important celebration.  And I have learned that next year we will add this celebration of our host celebrating 20 years at home.  I think that this has been a great introduction that connects back to some very important basic principles.  The willingness to stay together, to build together, to overcome difficulties, to afford the challenges that we may be finding in our way.

You have just clearly set out what it is at stake.  But we have also given some orientation on how deep you feel the need to keep on doing, to keep on building, to keep on acting together, to update the tools, to be ready to keep on surviving and to count on the exhibition of the steel pictures for the 20 years to come.  There are very few industries that can tell the story of Europe as clearly as the steel.  Yes, it's been 75 years when coal and steel were at the heart of the project that today make us feel so proud.  Being aware of the importance to stand up, to defend what we have achieved, to be able to keep on building.

75 years later, steel remains an important part of our history, of our common storytelling.  And the context in which that story is being written has fundamentally changed.  Steel is still essential to our economies, our infrastructure, our security, our employment, the creation of wealth, the growth of our economies, the expectations of our people.  It supports millions of jobs, entire communities, innovation, strategic economy and security.  And today we identify this magic word that is so much on fashion: resilience.

Being prepared to resist, react, stand up and keep on going.  And yes, it is under enormous pressure.  You say energy prices, global overcapacity, level playing field in global markets, trading practices, weaker demand, new materials, the scale of investment that is required to modernize, to look into the future with hope and optimism.  And at the very same time, the industry is being asked to make one of the biggest transformations in its history.  And you are trying to find out the way to overcome this challenge in a successful manner.
