Ukrainian service of Radio Free Europe asks about Donald Trump’s Truth Social remarks on Europe possibly repaying the US for Ukraine military aid, and the Commission spokesperson reiterates the EU’s policy of not commenting on such comments while stressing that the EU and member states are leading donors, with over €220 billion overall support and €87 billion for military and defence, including via the Ukraine support loan.

It concerns fresh remarks of the US President Donald Trump. He was writing in Truth Social that probably later on he will be asking Europe to return money for the military aid that has been provided by the United States for Ukraine during the presidency of Joe Biden.

So have this kind of, I would not call this request, so have you ever heard something like that from the US President before and what is your, what is your reaction to this? Thanks.

As a general point of principle we don't comment on comments, but Christian may wish to share more. Go ahead Christian.

Yes, exactly Olaf. As per usual practice we are not going to comment on comments indeed, but I'm happy to remind you that, to remind in this context that the EU and its member states are Ukraine's leading donors. We have provided over 220 billion euros to Ukraine. This includes 87 billion in overall support to strengthen Ukraine's military and defense capabilities, including around 8.5 billion from the Ukraine support loan. And as you know and we've discussed it yesterday, even now recently at the, at the Foreign Affairs Informal Council, also further support was discussed.
