Moving on, I would now like to invite Eva to the podium.  She has an announcement concerning the EU Civil Protection Mechanism on a rather special occasion for us.

Intervenant 2
Good afternoon and thank you, Ariana.  Indeed, today I would like to wish happy birthday to our European Civil Protection Mechanism.  25 years of saving lives and 25 years of European solidarity in action.  Our European Civil Protection Mechanism is a powerful example how Europe can act as one.  Since it was established in 2021, it has been activated around 900 times.

The requests came from 160 countries and 8 international organizations.  The mechanism has been strengthened over the past quarter century.  We have coordinated assistance during wildfires, floods, earthquakes, and health emergencies, also during the heatwaves and also during COVID-19.  We have helped also repatriate Europeans from around the world in time of the crisis.  And we provided massive support to Ukraine, sending generators and evacuating Ukrainian patients from hospitals.

I invite you to read our press release about the details.  And as disasters and crises do not stop at national borders, nor should our solidarity.  This is why we today announce 22.5 million in humanitarian aid for Yemen at the time of the immense needs caused by escalation of the conflict.  This comes on top of 87.5 million already allocated this year.  Let me stress that our humanitarian aid is provided in line with the principles of humanity, neutrality, impartiality, and independence.
