Speaker 1
Order. Welcome to this meeting of the culture media and sport select committee. Today, we're hearing evidence from the government in our final session on our major events inquiry. We're joined by Stephanie Peacock, is the minister responsible for major events. And alongside her are Jonathan Martin, the DCMS director for project delivery and major events.
And Michael Livingston, is the DCMS director for major sporting projects delivery. Welcome to all of you. I should put on record that we did invite both minister or a senior official from the home office to attend yesterday. Unfortunately, the minister was unavailable. We were very disappointed that the home office were not able to even send a senior official.
So as a committee, we will be writing to the home office to point out that this is not acceptable and that in future, they should at least make a senior official available to a select committee. Because it's unfair when it comes to home office issues that the ministers and team at DCMS are having to answer questions on that on that department. I'm gonna kick off the question. Question. Minister, wondering if you the the the recurring theme that we've heard throughout this throughout this evidence of on major events is the lack of a coherent strategy or strategies for major events.
Can you just try and help us to to start off understand what the government does have in terms of a strategy for for for the huge major events we have across this country, which take place in such geographically diverse parts of the so the nations.
