Well, I declare open this hearing of the senate environment and communications reference committee into the climate risk assessment.
17:30 - 18:20
Speaker 50
I begin by acknowledging the traditional owners of the land in which we meet and pay my respect to their elders past and present. I extend that respect to aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples here today. The committee will be conducting today's hearing via teleconference, video conference, and in person. It's great to have, my fellow senators here in the room. These are public proceedings being video streamed via the parliament's website, and a hand card...
A hand card transcript is being made. I remind all witnesses that in giving evidence to the committee, they are protected by parliamentary privilege. It is unlawful for anyone to threaten or disadvantage a witness on account of evidence given to a committee, and such action may be treated by the senate as contempt. It is also contempt to give false or misleading evidence. Witnesses have the right to to request to be heard in camera.
