Great. Fantastic. Well, welcome, everybody, to our hearing. I've got a few words to say beginning before we go to our witnesses that are here. Just a reminder for all our committee members joining on, this is the first of these hearings that we've had online, and the usual online protocols are in place.
If you wish to ask a question, please use the hands up function, on Webex or message via the app. And, similarly, if we've got our witnesses in the room, if you could just hands up. If I miss you, I apologize or let the secretariat know, and they will keep us on track. I declare open this public hearing on the joint standing committee for treaties for its inquiry into the agreement between the government of Australia and the government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland for defense and security cooperation. I begin by acknowledging the traditional custodians on the land in which we all meet today and pay my respects to their elders past and present.
I also extend that respect to any aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples joining us today. In accordance with the treaty's resolution of the 07/31/2025, this hearing will be broadcast, and the proof and official transcripts of these proceedings will be published on the parliament's website. I remind all members of the media for the need of fair and accurate reporting for the proceedings of this committee. Before I invite representatives of the Department of Defense, Australian Border Force, and Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade to give evidence today, I'll just quickly, let members know who's present. We have the, our deputy chair, Zoe Mackenzie with us.
