Of quorum, and so I will begin, this public hearing of AUKUS. Before you, we've got our first witnesses that have joined us remotely. We've got a panel discussion first up, and we also have a number of our members that have joined us remotely, and myself and mister Zappia here in Parliament House. So the formal words, I declare open this public hearing of the Joint Standing Committee on Treaties for its inquiry into the nuclear powered submarines partnership and collaboration agreement between the government of Australia and the government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. I begin by acknowledging the traditional custodians of the land in which we meet today and pay my respects to elders...
To their elders past and present. I also extend that respect to any aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who might be joining us today. In accordance with the committee's resolution of 07/31/2025, this hearing will be broadcast, and and the proof and official transcripts of the proceedings will be published on the parliament's website. Remind all members of the, media for the need of fair and accurate reporting for the proceedings of the committee. Before I call our first witnesses, just remind people that because most of the participants in this, hearing will be participating remotely, to please have yourself on mute unless you have the call.
It might get a bit messy, but just like all the other remote hearings, we've done, we will, accommodate and do our best where we can. I remind committee members, to message via the signals group or let the secretary know, or use the hands up function, to let us know if you have a question. So I'll now call our first witnesses. I'd now like to welcome representatives from the Friends of the Earth Australia, Friends of the Earth Adelaide, and the Australian Conservation Foundation to give evidence today.
