Yep, lights on.  Everyone's home.  Excellent.  All right.  Good afternoon, everyone.
09:18 - 10:48
Speaker 40
I'd like to declare open this public hearing of the parliamentary joint committee on intelligence and security for its review of the criminal code amendment, state sponsors of terrorism bill twenty twenty five.  These are public proceedings, although the committee may agree to request to have evidence heard in camera or may determine that certain evidence should be heard in camera.  I remind all witnesses that in giving evidence to the committee, are protected by parliamentary privilege.  It's unlawful for anyone to threaten or disadvantage a witness on account of evidence given to a committee, and such action may be treated by the parliament as contempt.  I remind all presidents, chair, I'll ensure that proceedings are conducted in an orderly, respectful, and courteous way.

In accordance with the committee's resolutions of the August 26 this year, the hearing will be broadcast on parliament's website, and the proof and official transcripts of proceedings will be published also on parliament's website.  The hearing today is being conducted predominantly by video conference with some witnesses.  If nothing, all the witnesses are in Canberra and members on video.  Members and witnesses participating remotely are reminded to mute and, to mute microphones when not speaking.  I'd like to now welcome representatives from the from the attorney general's department and the department of home affairs.

Good afternoon.  Now can I ask for the hand side record, could you all please state your full names, the capacity in which you appeared before today's committee hearing?  And we'll start with the attorneys general's department.
