Joint Standing Committee on Treaties Australian Parliament

10:56 - 11:45
Speaker 1
I declare open this public hearing on the joint standing committee on treaties for its inquiry into amendments to the international health regulations.  I begin by acknowledging the traditional owners on the land on which we meet and pay my respects to elders both past, present, and emerging.  I also extend that respect to any Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people that might be joining us today.  In accordance with the committee's resolution of the 07/31/2025, this hearing will be broadcast, and proof and official transcripts of the proceedings will be published on the parliamentary website.  I remind members of the media of the need for fair and accurate reporting of the proceedings of the committee.
11:45 - 12:24
Speaker 33
I remind all present as the chair that I'll ensure that the proceedings are conducted in an orderly, respectful, and courteous way.  I appreciate this topic can be challenging and might bring about debate.  I also acknowledge that we're also...  Many of us are participating in this hearing remotely and remind those who are participating online to use the mute function if they're not speaking and to use the hand function or for committee members, the Jay Scott treaties signal group if they wish to ask a question.  I'll now call our first witnesses.
12:24 - 12:41
Speaker 1
I now welcome the representatives of the Department of Health Disability and Aging and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade to give evidence today.  For the hand side record, would you please each state your full name and the capacity in which you are appearing before the committee?

Speaker 46
Alexandra Perry, treaties manager from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
