House Standing Committee on Economics Australian Parliament
10:07 - 12:01
Speaker 9
One, I declare open this meeting of the House of Representatives standing committee on economics for its review of Australia's four major banks. Today, the committee will hear from the ANZ and the National Australia Bank. I wanna start by acknowledging the Ngunnawal, for the lands on which we meet today. Pay my respects to elders past and present, and I extend that respect to any aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people that are with us today. I welcome representatives of the major banks as well as members of the public and the media in the room and watching online.
As I said yesterday, these public hearings have a a important role to play in public scrutiny. So we do have some requirements to enable us to productively do that. In accordance with committee's resolution of July 31, this hearing will broadcast on the parliament's website, and the proof and official transcripts of the proceedings will be published online with obvious great public interest in the proceedings. It's important to emphasize to everyone present that these are parliamentary proceedings which must be conducted by respect. Those present today are advised that filming and recording by the media is permitted during the hearing.
However, we do ask that members of the media present or listening report the committee's proceedings fairly and accurately. Media present are also asked to conduct themselves in a way that doesn't interfere with the proceedings and must not encroach on the committee's work area or film or photograph documents or devices of committee members, witnesses, or others. With that, I welcome representatives of the ANZ. For the benefit of Hansard, can you please, state, your full names and the capacity in which you appear before the committee? I might start with you, mister Matos.
Of course. Good morning.
